Who Am I?

Maureen Michaels - Psychotherapist

As a psychotherapist, I consider myself to be a teacher—I often refer to my clients as my students. This is purposeful because I view the process of therapy as a re-education. This student/teacher orientation is a rare one yet it’s highly effective. Sessions with me are very interactive. I’m not silent or shielded.

Certainly I’m intently listening and I’ll respond to you with compassion and candor. I believe a good psychotherapist also needs to introduce new concepts and perspectives about how to have a happier life. We’ll engage in an active discussion and I’ll encourage you to be a healthy skeptic about those concepts.

I’ll take you seriously and won’t condemn you or your problems. This is a very personal working relationship and I’ll be a thoughtful, encouraging partner as you work on changing your life. My role with you is not only to be supportive, but also to introduce new and challenging ideas for your consideration.

Unique and Dynamic Approach

My training is a unique and dynamic approach that was developed to make inroads into mental health work. It emphasizes the understanding of human nature, belief systems, neurosis and the dynamics of relationships.

Many people have hired me after another psychotherapy experience has not been effective. They find my approach practical, educational, refreshing and life changing. I think it's important that you find out who I am and how I'll work with you before you start this very important personal journey. That's why I offer a free consultation.

Private and Confidential

My private practice offers a confidential and personal setting. Many people comment on the warm, comfortable atmosphere of my office.

I've been in practice in Beverly, Massachusetts for 25 years. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Albany followed by extensive private psychotherapy training. I hold a 10 Year Certificate of Advanced Training.
